Abstract
Electrophoresis is one of the electrokinetic phe-
nomera which involves the motion of dissolved
or suspended material under the influence of elec-
trio field.
In 1892 Picton and Linder employed V-and
U-shaped glass tube to observe the migration of
inorganic compounds and hemoglobin in solution.

electrophoresis. The latter method uses a relati-
vely inert and homogeneous solid or semisolid me-
dium to ¢¥hold the separated components in dis-
Crete zones for further study and it possesses the
greater sensitivity wish much smaller quantities
of sample.
Much of the earlier work involved the use of
filter paper as stabilizing medium. In recent ye-
ars, however, filter paper has been superseded
by other materials, such as cellulose acetate, star-
ch gel and polyacrylamide gel which permit
sharper separations. Particularly the -high resol-
